Minelab GPX 5000 is a Pulse Induction (PI) gold detector from Minelab's long-running GPX line. Pulse induction ignores most of the ground mineralisation that blinds ordinary VLF machines, which is why the GPX series is used on ironstone, hot rocks and salt-affected soils where small gold is hard to separate from the ground signal.
The detector is built around three processing technologies. MPS (Multi Period Sensing) reads each target at several pulse lengths, DVT, Minelab's voltage-tracking technology, keeps performance consistent as the battery level changes, and SETA (Smart Electronic Timing Alignment) tunes the receive timing to the coil. Together they let the operator choose between sensitivity to tiny pieces and depth on larger ones.
Eight soil timings, tracking ground balance and six programmable search modes give a skilled user real control, but they also mean the GPX 5000 rewards time spent learning it. It is supplied with an 11-inch Double-D for everyday work and a 15 x 12-inch Commander mono coil for extra depth, and it is powered by a 7.4 V lithium-ion battery.
